We are listening - Ivy Road, Macclesfield

18 August 2020

Councillor Laura Crane, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for highways and waste, said: “As part of the Covid-19 economic recovery programme, the council has been consulting with town and parish councils across the borough.

“These initial projects are, by their very nature, being prepared in a much shorter timescale than we are accustomed to for traffic measures, in part this is a condition of Government funding. The measures are experimental and we will continue to work with the town and parish councils to develop, review and refine these measures and others, as appropriate, before anything becomes permanent.

“Our aim is to deliver schemes that are right for each town, developed in partnership with local communities. Nationally, the statutory procedures for making traffic orders have been shortened but these still require us to give notice of planned schemes. We acknowledge that we will not get it right on every occasion.

“Where there are legitimate objections to suggested routes, the council has listened and has amended or withdrawn certain proposed schemes, including the scheme proposed for Macclesfield using Ivy Road. This will not be taken forward as originally proposed but, in light of comments from the community, will be amended.

“It is important that safe and acceptable active travel routes are developed across the borough so that more people can walk or cycle while maintaining social distancing.”
